Kershaw Rainbow Leek - 1660VIB
Made in the USA

The minute you take the Rainbow Leek out of your pocket, people will start to stare. And who can blame them? The Rainbow Leek is nothing short of spectacular. In fact, when it first came out, it was chosen for Blade Magazine's Overall Knife of the Year award.

The Rainbow Leek's amazing multi-colored finish comes from a process known as PVD or Physical Vapor Disposition. Metals are ionized with a high-current, low-voltage arc then placed in a vacuum chamber along with the products to be coated, in this case, the blade and handle of the Rainbow Leek. A negative voltage is introduced and a micro-thin layer of metal permanently coats the blade and handle. Ionizing different metals creates different coatings. In this case, the metal is titanium oxide and oxygen is also introduced into part of the process. The combination makes the brilliant rainbow colors you see on the Rainbow Leek. Like all Leeks, the Rainbow Leek has a practical 3-inch blade, which makes it a good-sized knife, but not too big.

The slim design makes it easy to carry and its razor-sharp blade of high-performance Sandvik 14C28N means it can take care of a full range of cutting tasks. The Rainbow Leek features the SpeedSafe ambidextrous assisted opening system for easy one-handed open. Whether you're left-handed or right-handed, just pull back on the blade protrusion or push outward on the thumbstud and the Rainbow Leek's blade is ready.

The Rainbow Leek's handle is pure stainless steel and it offers a super-secure frame lock, as well as a Tip-Lock slider, which locks the blade closed when folded, for additional safety.

Features of the Kershaw Rainbow Leek 1660VIB

Blade Material: Sandvik 14C28N Steel
Kershaw worked with Sandvik Steel, one of the world's leading manufacturers of stainless steel and special alloys, to produce this high-performance steel. Increased nitrogen in the formula enables 14C28N to provide both excellent corrosion resistance and the ability to be hardened to 58-60 Rockwell. Sandvik calls 14C28N the overall highest performing knife steel in the world that still maintains the productivity benefit of being fine-blankable.

Blade Finish: Titanium-Oxide Rainbow Coating
When oxygen is introduced into the PVD (Physical Vapor Disposition) process, the result is Kershaw's spectacular "rainbow" finishes. The Rainbow Chive, Scallion, and Leek all feature this amazing multicolored finish. And like their other PVD coatings, it resists scratching.

Handle Material: Titanium-Oxide Rainbow Coated 410 Stainless Steel
An alloy of iron and carbon, most steel also has additional elements alloyed in it to enhance specific characteristics. As a handle material, steel is strong and attractive.

SpeedSafe
SpeedSafe is a patented system that assists the user to smoothly open any SpeedSafe knife with a manual push on the blade's thumb stud or pull back on the blade protrusion. SpeedSafe is built into many of Kershaw's best-selling knives.

Flipper
May be used on either manual or assisted opening knives. The "flipper" is a protrusion on the back of the blade that the user can pull back on, or flip, in order to move the blade easily out of the handle.

Frame Lock
In a frame lock knife, the knife handle, its "frame," consists of two plates of material on either side of the blade. To ensure a secure lock up, one or both of these plates is usually metal. When the knife is opened, the metal side of the frame, the lockbar, butts up against the backend of the blade (the tang) and prevents the blade from closing. To close a frame lock knife, the user pushes the frame to the side, unblocking the blade, and folds the blade back into the handle. Frame locks are manufactured so that the locking side of the frame is angled toward the interior of the knife, creating a bias toward the locked position. Both the blade tang and the lockbar are precisely angled so they fit together for a secure, reliable lockup. The thickness of the frame material blocking the blade open makes the frame lock extremely sturdy.

Tip-Lock
The tip-lock is a simple slider that, when engaged, ensures the blade will not accidentally open. It's especially helpful in cases where the knife might be juggled in a briefcase, backpack, or purse.

Reversible Pocketclip - Tip-Up/Tip-Down
A reversible pocketclip enables the user to position the clip for either knife tip-up or tip-down carry.

Made in the USA
