Kershaw Composite Blade Leek - 1660CB
Made in the USA

The first thing you'll notice about the Composite Blade Leek is...well, the Composite Blade. The wavy copper line you see running through the blade is the brazing that permanently joins the razor-sharp, durable D2 cutting edge to the Sandvik 14C28N spine. The combination of these two steels enables Kershaw to give you a blade that not only looks cool, but also provides the best of two steel worlds.

On the edge is a high-carbon, high-chromium D2 steel capable of taking and holding an incredible edge. On the spine is high-performance Sandvik 14C28N. With a Composite Blade, each type of steel is allowed to do what it does best. The Composite Blade Leek shares its 3-inch blade, slim, easy-to-carry design, and versatility with other Leeks.

The modified drop-point blade shape makes it a good slicing knife, while the slim tip gives it excellent piercing and detail work capabilities. The SpeedSafe assisted opening system makes it easy to open the knife one-handed, whether you're a lefty or a righty. A simple pull back on the ambidextrous blade protrusion or push outward on the thumbstud and the Leek's Composite Blade is ready to go to work.

This Leek also features a handle of pure stainless steel. A super-secure frame lock keeps the blade locked open during use and a Tip-Lock slider locks the blade closed when folded. The pocketclip can be configured for tip-up or tip-down carry and the handle is drilled to accept a lanyard.

Features of the Kershaw Composite Blade Leek 1660CB

Blade Material: D2/Sandvik 14C28N Composite Steel
Kershaw's Composite Blade Technology enables them to design a blade with no compromises. They use premium D2 steel designed for wicked edge retention on the blade's cutting edge and Sandvik 14C28N steel designed for superior strength along the spine. Composite Blades give you the best of both worlds, a blade that stays sharp where a knife needs to be sharp and stays strong where a knife needs to be strong. And Composite Blades offer another advantage, amazing style that you just can't get anywhere else.

Blade Finish: Bead-Blasted
The knife blade is "blasted" or sprayed with a mixture of fine media, including glass and aluminum oxide beads, under high speed and pressure. This smooths the blade surface and creates a soft, non-reflective, matte look. Depending on the media, this finish can produce a darker or a lighter blade color.

Handle Material: Bead-Blasted 410 Stainless Steel
An alloy of iron and carbon, most steel also has additional elements alloyed in it to enhance specific characteristics. As a handle material, steel is strong and attractive.

SpeedSafe
SpeedSafe is a patented system that assists the user to smoothly open any SpeedSafe knife with a manual push on the blade's thumb stud or pull back on the blade protrusion. SpeedSafe is built into many of Kershaw's best-selling knives.

Flipper
May be used on either manual or assisted opening knives. The "flipper" is a protrusion on the back of the blade that the user can pull back on, or flip, in order to move the blade easily out of the handle.

Frame Lock
In a frame lock knife, the knife handle, its "frame," consists of two plates of material on either side of the blade. To ensure a secure lock up, one or both of these plates is usually metal. When the knife is opened, the metal side of the frame, the lockbar, butts up against the backend of the blade (the tang) and prevents the blade from closing. To close a frame lock knife, the user pushes the frame to the side, unblocking the blade, and folds the blade back into the handle. Frame locks are manufactured so that the locking side of the frame is angled toward the interior of the knife, creating a bias toward the locked position. Both the blade tang and the lockbar are precisely angled so they fit together for a secure, reliable lockup. The thickness of the frame material blocking the blade open makes the frame lock extremely sturdy.

Tip-Lock
The tip-lock is a simple slider that, when engaged, ensures the blade will not accidentally open. It's especially helpful in cases where the knife might be juggled in a briefcase, backpack, or purse.

Reversible Pocketclip - Tip-Up/Tip-Down
A reversible pocketclip enables the user to position the clip for either knife tip-up or tip-down carry.
